26 June 2023 at 12:23
PRESS RELEASE: We are happy to announce the launch of our first London venue: A summer pop-up at Battersea Power Station as part of ‘The Battersea Games’. The court – Rocket Padel’s first since the opening in Bristol in April 2023 – will be available 1 st July – 3 rd September and open between 9am - 10pm daily.
The Rocket Padel Pop-up court, placed just in front of the Battersea Power Station and staffed at all opening hours will be open to book through a link here on our website soon.
The court is surrounded by a custom built container with shop, refreshments and snacks. Equipment is available to rent at the court, and Rocket Padel’s team will be on-hand to explain the rules if necessary. Sandy Farquharson, GB padel player, padel influencer, and founder of The Padel School, is teaming up with Rocket Padel to be on site for coaching sessions, corporate events, and exhibition matches with the Great Britain Padel Team. Coaching sessions with The Padel School can be booked online and via the Padel Mates app for specific dates.
The padel trend Padel is the global racket sport phenomenon played on an enclosed court, and is sometimes described as a ‘tennis-squash hybrid’. Padel is starting to boom in the UK, with superstar fans including Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Andy Murray. Over 25 million people play the sport worldwide.
Thoughts on the venture Sebastian Gordon, Founder of Rocket Padel, comments: “London is an exciting new market for us as we continue to expand our venues throughout the UK. July and August are the peak of racket sport-fever, and by coinciding with Wimbledon we hope to introduce as many new fans to this sport as possible. Situated right in the heart of London, Battersea Power Station is a perfect location for us and we look forward to welcoming people onto the court, whether it be for the first time or the fiftieth!”
Kate Boothman-Meier, Head of Marketing at Battersea Power Station, comments: “When thinking about what we wanted to offer guests at The Battersea Games, padel was high on our list. It’s fun, sociable, easy-to-learn, and suitable for all ages and abilities, so it will be perfect for everyone coming to the event this summer. We’re absolutely delighted to be able to work with the Rocket Padel team to introduce a new audience to this addictive sport!”
Sandy Farquharson, Founder of The Padel School, comments: “It is fantastic to work alongside Rocket Padel, who are really working to develop the sport in the UK. The reason this sport is growing so quickly worldwide is a combination of it being easy to play and very sociable. If players come down to Battersea Power Station to give it a go, I have no doubt they will get hooked on the game.”
About The Battersea GamesUnderline Taking place inside and outside the Grade II* listed Power Station, The Battersea Games will feature an evolving calendar of sports and games suitable for all ages and interests including an indoor climbing wall, 3x3 basketball court, 100m running track, a range of classes including yoga, boxing and HIIT training, dog agility and training, virtual reality gaming, ping-pong and giant board games to name a few. About Rocket PadelUnderline UK-based and Sweden-born Rocket Padel’s mission is to make padel accessible to everyone in the UK. It is achieving this by creating high-quality venues, first in Bristol and then with nationwide expansion to follow. Rocket Padel is creating a sustainable future and longevity for the growth of amateur and professional padel in the UK.
Typically, racket sports have perennial issues whereby community facilities are too often unavailable to the broader public, either through exclusionary price points or lack of availability. By creating an accessible social experience for players of all ages and abilities, Rocket Padel is bringing a luxury service at an affordable price.
Rocket Padel was conceived and founded in 2018 by serial entrepreneur and padel enthusiast Sebastian Gordon. After a hugely successful launch in Sweden, Gordon turned his sights in 2022 to UK expansion, enlisting the help of Fredrik Kristensson (Group CEO) and Carl Heimdal (UK Director). As of 2023, Rocket Padel has built over 50 courts across Scandinavia, alongside creating one of Europe’s leading padel apparel and e-commerce brands.
